Seiko Mikami (1961-2015) has been active as an artist since the 1980s and as a professor at Tama Art University, Japan, since 2000. We researched Mikami’s activities, collected information about her various activities, when and what kind of activities she did as an artist/professor, and designed a prototype of a chronology of activities that organizes this information in a listable format.
The chronological data takes as its starting point the “Seiko Mikami Brief Chronology” published in SEIKO MIKAMI: A Critical Reader (edited by Jung-Yeon Ma / Tomoya Watanabe, NTT Publishing 2019) and merges information from the Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media [YCAM] website, the NTT InterCommunication Center [ICC] website, and information from the personal profile page left at the Department of Information Design, Tama Art University, and then adds information published online about Mikami.
In order to comprehensively collect information on Mikami’s activities from the 1980s to the 2010s, it is necessary to conduct research in a variety of archives and databases, regardless of the medium. One of the goals of this chronology is to provide a platform for such extensive research to be conducted on an ongoing basis.
At the same time, we would like to make this chronological page, which displays the collected information in chronological order, the future entrance, or “interface,” to the Seiko Mikami Archive of Tama Art University.
